A
-first attempt at harmonisation of the patent law
-crux of the agreement was that each signatory state had to offer the same treatment to all within their jurisdiction irrespective of nationality

- the washington patent co-operation treaty attempted to ease the burden on a patentee by having to claim patent protection separately in different jurisdictions

- its a single patent court covering 24 different countries

A
- establish a priority date ahead of anyone else in the field
-defined under s15 of the uk patents act 1977
-to have an effective priority date there has to be an enabling disclosure of the invention
