Lecture 6 Flashcards
What was the precursor to EIGRP?
IGRP
Why was IGRP invented?
Developed to over RIPv1 maximum hop count of 15.
What are the metrics used by IGRP?
Bandwidth (used by default)
Delay (used by default)
Reliability
Load
What does the EIGRP packet header contain?
It contains the AS number
Opcode Field
What does AS number stand for?
Autonomous System number
What does TLV stand for?
Type, Length, Value
What does TLV: IP Internal contain?
Metric Field
Subnet Mask Field
Destination Field
What does EIGRP use to route several different network layer protocols?
PDM is used to route different network layer protocols like IP, IPX & AppleTalk.
What are PDMs responsible for?
The routing task for each network layer protocol.
What does EIGRP use to transmit and receive EIGRP packets?
Reliable Transport Protocol is used to transmit EIGRP packets.
What are the charateristics of RTP?
RTP involves both reliable & unreliable delivery of EIGRP packet.
Reliable delivery requires the acknowledgement from the destination device.
Unreliable delivery does not.
How can packets be sent using RTP?
Unicast
Multicast
Multicast uses address 224.0.0.10
What are the 5 types of packets used in EIGRP?
Hello (used to discover and form adjacencies with neighbors).
Update (used to propagate routing information)
Acknowledgement (Used to acknowledge receipt of update, query & reply packets)
Query (used by DUAL for searching for networks - can be used on unicast and multicast).
Reply (reply packet - unicast).
