Lecture 6 Flashcards
role and fcn of cements
used to bind restoration materials to teeth
types of bases for cements
water, oil or resin
requirements for cements
low viscosity but good mechanical properties and 25um thickness
possible modifications of cement
increase powder:liquid ratio, (powder = filler so viscosity modulus and strength would all increase)
types of cements
resin based (composites), glass ionomer, zinc oxide, zinc phosphate, and zinc polyacrylate
fcn of bases and liners
protect dentin and seal it to repair it, minimizing sensitivity
diff btwn bases and liners
bases provide mechanical and thermal support
what material is used for pulp capping?
CaOH2
how does CaOH2 work?
undergoes acid base rxn simulating reparative dentin
what’s ZOE?
zinc oxide and eugenol - liner that expands when set, has a good seal, minimizes pain
disadvantage of ZOE
inhibits polymerization of composites and has bad mech properties
requirements for waxes
temporary, melts @ low temp, burns offf, is carvable, and dimensionably stable
what does the molecular weight of wax fall between?
polymers and organic solvents (hexane)
