how to break down language structure (it is hierarchical):
bits of sound called PHONEMES (t u w) combine to form meaningful sound combinations called MORPHEMES (to) which on their own, or combined, form WORDS (to) which combine to form PHRASES which combine to form SENTENCES
how does language develop in babies
in the same hierarchy that we make sentences in: 3-5w is vowel phonemes (“ooh” and “aah”), 4-6w is vowel and consonant phonemes (“dada” and “baba”), 6-18w is morphemes (“daddy” and “bottle”), 24m is phrases (“give milk”), preschool is complete sentances
overgeneralization errors (in developing children):
when a kid finds out a new rule that works most of the time, and uses it in the wrong places (forgotted)
is it important for kids to hear lots of speaking?
yes, if the kid doesnt hear language in the first year or so, find much difficulty in aquiring the ability
