What is a classic presentation of Trichomonas?
Trichomonas: Microscopic parasite.
Foul-smelling, frothy discharge. “Strawberry cervix”, itchy, dysuria, foul odor, high pH.
What is a classic presentation of Candidiasis?
Fungus. Itchy, thick clumpy cheese discharge, high pH.
What is a classic presentation for bacterial vaginosis?
Foul, fishy odor, thin milky-white discharge, itchy, dysuria, positive whiff test, clue cells.
What are some diagnostic tests for Trichomonas?
Culture
Antigen detection (OSOM rapid test)
DNA probe (affirm)
Wet mount
What are some diagnostic tests for candida?
Largely clinical.

What are some diagnostic tests for bacterial vaginosis?
Fulfill Amsel’s criteria: 3/4 of following:
- Whiff test positive for fishy or musty odor on KOH
- Clue cells
- Vaginal pH > 4.5
- Homogeneous, non-inflammatory discharge
What are classic Chlamydia symptoms?
Cervicitis - heavy or prolonged menses, spotting, dysmenorrhea, dyspareunia, vaginal discharge.
What are some Gonorrhea symptoms?
Cervicitis - yellow or bloody vaginal discharge, painful urination, dysmenorrhea.
What test should be used in chlamydia?
A nucleic acid amplification test NAAT
Culture can be done in medical legal test
What test should be used in Gonorrhea?
A nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT).
Culture can test rectal and pharyngeal specimins and for medical-legal purposes.
