How do you address the misperceptions of the nor?
- Know what the norm is
- understand what people believe the norm to be
- evidence of misperception
- challenge the missconceptions
Characterisitcs of the social norms approach?
o Does not use health terrorism
o A parcipatory process
o Is not moralistic in tone
o Messages included present information about actual (healthy) norms of a population back to that population
How do you prepare for a socail norms approach?
define the population and understand it
choose a reference group
involve stakeholders
know what people do and what they believe (descriptive and injunctive norms)
What do you take into accoutn during data anylsis of a social norms approach?
o Identification of the actual reported norms
o Evidence of misperceptions
