type of prison architecture; some key elements are:
- constant visibility (mutual but also uncertainty on whether they are being watched or not)
- tower in the middle

What does panoptic control entail?
A
- Making people constantly visible “visibility is a trap”
- Individualization: no lateral lines of site; everyone is seen individually; in their own cells and cannot talk to each other
- organization of power is depersonalized: anyone can take the job of the security guard (differs from feudalism)
- power is visible and unverifiable|
- according to foofoo, power is “continuous” and “permanent”
