What are the golden rules for using sorghum crops as fodder
- Avoid grazing stressed plants and in particular, avoid regrowth such as crops ratooning as a result if storm rain
- Delay grazing until plant are over 45cm tall for short varities and 75cm high for all varieties
- Don’t graze hungry stock on sorghum particulary if crop is wilted or stressed
- Watch stock continuously for first hour and then frequently for fisrt few days
- Keep a supply of sodium thiosulphate in hand for emergency treating of cyanide poisoning
- Supplement stock on sorghum crops with sulphur. Sulphur is required for detoxifying cyanide in the rumen and licer
