Lecture 5 Flashcards
Photoactivation
The process whereby a photon is absorbed by a chromophore (retinal), and when the photoreceptors become hyperpolarized
Graded potentials
Potentials that vary continuously in their amplitude.
Receptive field
The receptive field of an individual sensory neuron is the particular region of the sensory space (e.g., the body surface, or the visual field) in which a stimulus will modify the firing of that neuron. They have a center-surround organization (on/off, off/on).
Diffuse bipolar cells
Receive inputs from multiple photoreceptors.
Midget bipolar cells
Receives input from a single cone
P ganglion cells
Connects to the parvocellular pathway
M ganglion cells
Connect to the magnocellular pathway
