lecture 5 Flashcards
mandibular processes from the
first brachial arch
hyaline cartilage formed in the mandibular process of the first brachial arch of vertebrate embryos
meckels cartilage
this structure is tied to dental eruption. it is significant in vertical development. takes place above the mandibular canal
mandibular alveolar process
bone between teeth inside
cancellous
bone outside/in front
cortical
mandibular growth goes 3 ways:
- cartilage growth (condyles)
- alveolar growth (dental eruptions)
- remodeling by bone apposition and resorption
growth in length of the mandible occurs essentially at the
condyles
this starts to catch up since it starts as retrognathic at birth
mandible
vertical growth of the mand ramus is the result of vertical displacement of the
maxilla
vertical and transverse growth of the ramus occurs at the same time and must be time with
tooth eruption
____ growth is present for condylar growth, but only at the articular surface because of compression load
endochondral growth
