- Network participants have a common goal
- All network participants have a distinct specific goal as well
- Networks consists of relation characterized by mutual investments or independences. Not just transactional links.
- Networks have a distinct boundary with their environments.
- The links between network participants are based on various types of exchange (Money, Information and knowledge and economic goods)
