lecture 4 - cell-cell interaction Flashcards
what is connective tissue?
structural portions that hold the cells of the body together
what is the mesenchmye?
loosely packed cells from which connective tissue, bone cartilage and the lymphatic systems develop
what is the stroma?
the supportive tissue in an epithelial organ consisting of connective tissues and blood vessels
what is the major cell type in the connective tissue?
fibroblasts
what is an epithelial cell?
epithelium is composed of one or more layers of densely packed cells which can line the outer layer of the epidermis - skin
what is cell differentiation?
when a less specialised cell becomes more specialised
what is proliferation?
cell proliferation is the process that results in an increase of the number of cells
what is morphogenesis?
the shaping of an organism by embryological processes of differentiation of cells, tissues and organs and the development of organ systems
what is pattern formation?
developmental process by which cells in a developing embryo acquire identities that lead to a well ordered spatial patter of cell activities
what is sequential activity?
timing of events
what is reciprocal activity?
one in control then another
what is dynamic activity?
happens quickly
