Lecture 4 Flashcards
1
Q
Triceps surae (gastroc-soleus group)
A
- Gastrocneumius + Soleus
- 3 heads with common insertion (middle 1/3 of posterior surface of calcaneus)
- Medial head is larger
2
Q
Triceps surae functions
A
- Powerful plantarflexors of talocrual joint (ankle joint)
- Supinators of subtalar joint
- Soleus is a 2 joint muscle
- Gastrocnemius is also a knee flexor (3-joint muscle)
3
Q
Equinus
A
- Inadequate ankle dorsiflexion that causes pathological compensation and/or pathology
- Can alter gait and increase forefoot pressure
4
Q
Equinus is caused by
A
- Contracted Achilles-gastrocnemius-soleus complex
5
Q
Equinus is seen in multiple conditions
A
- Neuromuscular conditions such as CP
- Diabetics have increased incidence of equinuus
6
Q
Equinus alters foot biomechanics and has been linked to
A
- Plantar fasciitis
- Achilles tendinopathy
- Metatarsalgia
- Ulcers in diabetics
7
Q
Transverse Vulpius gastrocsoleus recession zone 1
A
- From gastroc origin to most distal aspect of gastroc medial head
8
Q
Transverse Vulpius gastrocsoleus recession zone 2
A
- From distal aspect of gastroc medial head to the end of the soleal muscle fibers
9
Q
Transverse Vulpius gastrocsoleus recession zone 3
A
- Achilles (calcaneal) tendon
