Lecture 4 Flashcards
what enzyme does REDOX reactions use in metabolic pathways?
DEHYDROGENASES
how is glucose trapped and manipulated/oxidised into cells/
glucose transporter recognises glucose and phosphorylates it so it can’t leave (phosphate is charged) - is unrecognisable by glucose transporter as glucose’s shape changes
when trapped in cells, what pathway (catabolic/anabolic) is glucose fully committed to?
and what effect does this have on it’s role in metabolism and it’s usage in other pathways?
- catabolism
- passed down through metabolism
- can’t be used in other pathways
in glycolysis, what is the net investment and harvest of ATP?
and how much NADH is gained net?
2 ATP invested
4 ATP harvested
2 NADH gained
co-factor NAD/NADH+ roles (2)
- used for oxidation in glycolysis
- captures electrons and passes them on
substrate level phosphorylation defintion
metabolism reaction
ADP or GDP phosphorylated to ATP or GTP
what are the two limiting features of glycolysis?
oxygen and NAD+
how many stages/steps are in glycolysis?
10
how many phases in glycolysis? and what are their names?
2
energy investment phase
energy pay off phase
