What are the 4 principle methods of infection control?
routinely use PPE
wash your hands
ensure medical equipment is kept clean
maintain immunization against Hepatitis A &B, polio, tetanus, measles, etc..
What are the different PPE?
Mask, Eyewear, Gown, Gloves
In what order should you put on your personal protective equipment?
MEGG, mask, eyewear, gown gloves
In what order should you remove your PPE?
GGEM
What are the steps to disinfection?
wear disposable gloves
Use a solution of sodium hypochlorite (5.25%) diluted in a ration of 1:9
this disinfection solution can be used for up to 30 days (if stored in sealed opaque container)
Use a disposable cloth, allow sol’n to remain for 10 minutes. Rinse abundantly with water
Allow to air dry
What are possible ways of exposure to contagion?
Blood gets on an open lesion in your skin
Pricked, cut or scratched by an object soiled with blood
Receive a bite that draws blood
What are the treatment steps following exposure to a contagion?
let the injury bleed slightly
Clean the injury with water and mild soap
Rinse with water
If splashed on a mucous membrane (eyes, lips, mouth, inside nose):
rinse with abundant water as quick as possible to dilute contagion
HCPs should be regularly checked for which diseases?
Measles
Hepatitis
Tetanus/diphtheria
Mumps
Rubella
Chicken pox
