Lecture 3: Connective Tissue Part 1 Flashcards
What is connective tissue?
Tissue that supports, binds, or separates other tissues or organs. Also supports structural and metabolic support.
What embryological layer is CT derived from
The mesoderm.
What are the six categories of CT cells?
- Fibroblasts and fibrocytes
- Reticular cells
- Adipose cells
- Chrondoblasts and chrondocytes
- Osteoblasts and osteocytes
- Blood cells
What are the components of the CT matrix?
Fibres:
- Collagen
- Elastin
- Reticular
and Ground Substance
What classification of CT is this? What is its function?
Loose (areolar). Function to provide structural support and occupy space.
What type of CT is this? What is its function?
Dense irregular. Provides structural support and withstands tension.
What type of CT is this? Whats its function?
Dense regular (ligaments and tendons)
Connects bone to bone and muscle to bone
What type of CT is this? Whats its function?
Reticular (Type III collegen)
Provides a branching scaffold to support cellular components of organs
What type of CT is this? Whats its function?
Adipose
Acts as an energy store, protection and isulation
