Lecture 3-4 Flashcards
What are the stages of designing a MR project?
1- Problem Definition
2- Research Approach
3- Data Collection Approach
4- Data Integrity & Analysis
5- Communicating Findings
What type of data does exploratory research include?
Mainly qualitative
What type of data does conclusive research include?
Quantitative
What are mixed methods?
Combining multiple approaches/stages in one project
What’s cross-sectional research?
Collecting data from one sample, providing a ‘snapshot’
What’s longitudinal research?
Measuring the same variables repeatedly over time, allowing trends to be identified
What are the two types of sources of error?
Measurement and sampling
What’s measurement error
The difference between the observed value and the true value of the variable being measured
What’s sample design error?
Leads to a sample that is not representative of the population, affecting the ability to generalize results
What’s an example of measurement error?
Interviewer error
What’s an example of sample design error?
Selection error
What’s non-probability sampling?
A form of sampling that does not make use of random techniques
What’s snowball sampling?
You interview someone you know and ask them if they know anyone who would be best fit.
What’s stratified sampling?
Total population is divided into smaller groups.
