Lecture 3 Flashcards
What are the two types of equilibrium?
Stable(bottom of trough) and unstable(top of trough)
What are the four modes of environmental change?
1) Persistent or secular change (linear)
2) Periodic change(oscillatory with pattern)
3) Cyclical or Oscillatory change(oscillatory but random)
4) Short-lived or singularity change (brief diparture from normal conditions)
system
an entity composed of diverse but interrelated parts that function as a complex whole
state of the system
conditions of the system in terms of specific parameters
couplings
are the mechanisms and processes that cause various components of the system to be interrelated
feedback loop
group of two or more couplings in a system
perturbations
temporary events
forcings
more persistent disturbances
