What is attachment?
A bond formed with the primary caregiver (mother, father)
What is temperament?
stable behavioural and emotional reactions that appear in early development
What did Thomas and Chess (1977) find regarding temperament?
That temperament at 3 - 4 months was predictive to that at age 10 for most children
What were the three types of children identified in Thomas and Chess experiment and what percentage were they?
Easy 40%
Slow to Warm up 15%
Difficult 10%
What did Prior et al find about parenting a shy child in Aus vs US?
That Aus parenting had little effect on changing the shyness of the child where as US had minor effectiveness
What are the three patterns of attachment and what percentages to children fall into?
Secure 70%
Avoidant 20%
Ambivalent 10%
What are the four types of parenting?
Authoritarian (By force, father rules house, 50s style)
Permissive (Let children do what they like)
Authoritative (Setting boundaries but listening and guiding children)
Neglectful (Takes very little interest in children)
