Lecture 3 Flashcards
Free energy principle
Brain wants to limit the long term average of suprise to keep sensory entropy low
CS-pre exposure
during the habituation phase, show the CS by itself for an extended time, manipulation of how long the habituation phase is
CS-pre exposure the light experiment
Yellow light was the CS, was pre-exposed, compared to pre-exposure to a blue light (NS), learning was much lower to those pre exposed to the blue light.
Pre exposure and habituation
CS- pre exposure is context specific where as habituation is non-context specific
Pre exposure and inhibition
must pass the summation and retardation test, will pass the retardation test but will fail summation test
Generalisation
Little albert, generalisation does not last after extensive trials, more exposure in the acquisition phase will result in better discrimination
Rescorla Wagner model
explains learning prediction of the US, expected strength of the US vs actual strength of US.
Assumes that US is fixed. how much association can be learned vs the expected/current association between the stimulus
Taste aversion
- Usually acquisition occurs over a number of trials in association
- Long-delay conditioning is usually less effective
However, taste aversion can occur within just one association
e.g. eating something and only feeling it after hours is long delay and you will never have that food again
garcia effect
there is not equipotentiality between stimulus
association.
sickness is learnt easier when CS is food rather than noise and light and opposite for association of shock
Heroin addiction example
environment cues helped body prepare for taking heroin. If environment cues where not there more chance of death.
