Lecture 3 Flashcards
What are 3 types of actin filaments
Alpha (muscle), beta , gamma (both non-muscle)
What is the monomeric form of actin filaments
Globular actin
Discuss structure of globular actin
Globular shape with barbed end (plus end) and pointed end (minus end)
Structure of F-actin
Has polarity , plus and and minus end , plus end is fast growing end
How does ruffling help cell movement
Milopodeia amd filopoedia move forward. Anything that doesn’t attach moves backwards. Helping cell movement.
How do lamellipodia and micro spikes help cell motility
Form from actin polymerisation at the plasma membrane and rapidly push it out and attach the substratum for motility
What are 3 steps of actin polymerisation
Nucleation , elongation , steady state
What is critical concentration
The amount of monomers needed to form an actin filament
Other that the ARP nucleating complex what are 2 other nucleation systems
Spire and Formin
