Lecture 1 Flashcards
Describe differences between eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells
Eukaryotic cells keep DNA confined to nucleus whereas prokaryotic cell DNA is not confined. DNA of eukaryotes much more complex.Eukaryotic cell is 10 times larger. Prokaryotes cell walls contain peptidoglycan. So,e eukaryotes may have cell walls but none made of peptidoglycan.
What is cytosols function in eukaryotic cell
Contains metabolic pathways , protein synthesis
What is nucleus function in eukaryotic cell
Contains main genome and important for RNA and DNA synthesis.
Function of endoplasmic reticulum in eukaryotic cell
Synthesis of lipids and protein
Function of Golgi apparatus
Modification, sorting and packaging of proteins and lipids for secretion of delivery to organelles
Function of lysosomes in eukaryotic cell
Intercellular degradation
Function of endosomes in eukaryotic cell
Sorting of endocytosed material
Function of mitochondria in eukaryotic cell
ATP synthesis by oxidative phosphorylation
Chloroplasts
ATP synthesis and carbon fixation by photosynthesis
Peroxisomes
Oxidation of toxic molecules
