Lecture 3 Flashcards
What is DMAIC
- Define (define the problem)
- Measure (quantify the problem)
- Analyze (identify the cause of the problem)
- Improve (implement, and verify the solution)
- Control (maintain the problem
What do project limits define:
- Where the process starts and end
- What is included and excluded
- The problems of what will be delivered
The inclusion of project scope in the project charter helps:
Retain the focus on the six sigma team towards achieve the goal. Prevent scope-creep
The project team (4)
- select a team with multiple areas of expertise
- the team can change during the project
- typically 4-6 members
- have a clear understanding of the basic concepts of the LSS methodology in accordance with their rank
The project sponsor (4)
- not necessarily a team member, but a critcal resource, and an important stakeholders
- aware of the customer need(s), business requirements, sense of urgency and project boundaries
- empowered to make/ facilitate decision-making
- the contact with the rest of the organization
The RACI matrix
R -> responsible
A -> accountable
C -> consulted
I -> informed
What can happen if you do not use the RACI matrix?
- Avoidance of conflicts
- The ownership fades away (no ownership)
- Misinformation (you do not get the right information)
- Expectations are not going to be executed
- Failure of the project (because the tasks are not assigned correctly)
Three focuses for analyzing waste processes
- Moments of truth -> what are critical steps that ‘have to go right’ in order to consistently deliver value to the customer?
- Handoffs -> where an item or service is passed across the boundary between two dinstinct organizational functions inside or outside the organization
- Value add -> how much ‘action’ time is there in the process?
How do you use process mapping in process improvement efforts?
The maps are used to guide the analysis of root causes through to the development and implementation of solutions
Project champion
Not really active, overseeing the whole project (could be the CEO)
Steering committee
Committtee that oversees the execution of the project, including the project champion, project sponsor, project manager
