Q

What is transgenesis

A

Engineering as multicellular organism by adding in foreign DNA

The DNA code is universal, so any DNA can be used - synthetic DNA

Q

What is the process of a targeted mutation

A

a guide RNA is mixed with a Cas 9 to form a complex that is virally inserted into the target organism
Cas 9 enters the nucleus and finds the guide RNA match target sequence
breaks double stranded break in DNA at targer side
repair template allows gene editing

Q

What is somatic gene therapy

A

the transfer of DNA containing functional copies of genes into somatic cells to cure genetic disorders
- best candidates are single gene diseases caused by loss of function
