Lecture 22 - Genomics Flashcards
What is genomics?
The branch of molecular biology concerned with the structure, function, evolution, and mapping of genomes.
What is synthetic genomics?
is synthetic biology that uses aspects of genetic modification on pre-existing life forms, or artificial synthesis to create new DNA/chromosomes or entire lifeforms.
What is Metagenomics?
The study of genetic material recovered directly from environmental samples.
What is comparative genomics?
The science of comparison of genomic features among organisms. Because all genomes presumably arose from a common ancestral genome, relationship between genomes help to identify significance of those features and help determine genotype-phenotype relationship.
What is paleogenomics?
the study of the past through the examination of preserved genetic material from the remains of ancient organisms.
