Lecture 20 - Inheritance & Mendelian Laws Flashcards
1
Q
Mendel discovered 4 things, what are they?
A
Inheritance determinants (genes) come in pairs (mom & dad)
Law of dominance: phenotype with dominant allele
Laws of segregation: the two alleles of a gene seperate so tha each gamete recieves only one copy
Law of independnent assortment: assoring paternal and maternal chromosomes randomly
2
Q
How did monohybrid crosses reject the theory of blending inheritance?
A
- genes are physically distinct in nature
- the genes remain intact
- inheritance pattern comes from the presence of particular genes
3
Q
What’s a test cross?
A
When an individual with an unknown genotype is crossed with an individual who is homozygous recessive
