Lecture 2 - White light/heat Flashcards
Use of CO₂ in organisms
Can be used to make amino acids and then proteins.
Use of NH₃ in organisms
Can be used to make fatty acids and then they can be used to make phospholipids for the phospholipid bilayer.
Use of CH₄ in organisms
Can be used to make sugars and then used to make certain compounds that form a cell wall such as chitin and cellulose.
Use of SO₂ in organisms
Can be used to form nucleotides which then form nucleic acids and make genetic acids.
Sulfur is only present in Methionine (the “start” amino acid) and cysteine.
Electron transport chain
Revise photosynthesis
Rhodopsin
Main rod cells in the retina. It is the main component of vision.
Bacteriorhodopsin
A membrane protein in the retina. It absorbs and uses light energy to move hydrogens. This change in the proton gradient is converted to chemical energy.
This is followed by more processes and then gives us vision (may learn more later idk)
