Lecture 2 - VLDL and LDL Flashcards
What are VLDL?
Very low density lipoprotein
More cholesterol than chylomicrons CE:FC = 1:1
FC = free cholesterol
Uses Apo B100, E and C
Secreted from liver and processed in plasma to LDL
How is VLDL processed in the plasma?
VLDL gain most of their apoC,E and CE from HDL in the plasma.
apoC is cleaved by Lipoprotein lipase and becomes an intermediate density lipoprotein (IDL)
How is intermidiate density lipoprotein processed to LDL?
Hepatic lipases remove more TAG, some ppl and apoE
Both LDL and VLDL remnants are removed by LDL receptors. This relies on B100, VLDL at liver, LDL at peripheral tissue
How much cholesterol bodies do LDL lipoproteins transport?
60% bodies of cholesterol
-75% as CE and 25% as FC
90% of LDL apoprotein is Apo-B100
