A

We gain meaning and self-esteem from social groups => Personal identity is influenced by social identity (group membership)

Example: how much you identify with your friends and how you perceive their approval of heavy drinking is influences how much drinks you have per night.

What is the empirical evidence of the effect of globalization?

A

No effect on national identification or nationalism
Negative effect on patriotism (willingness to fight for the country)

So: No linear consequences of globalization: works well for some and not for others.

Ukrainian values are more similar to Russian Slavic-Orthodox values than Western European values, but there is a generational shift (younger cohorts show more support of European values)
