A

-A pregnant woman falls from the sky into a world covered with water.
-She is rescued on the back of a turtle who allows her to rest on his back
-A muskrat lays down his life by getting mud. Thuis mud is spreat across the turtles back and creates land
-Sky woman gives birth to a daughter who perished giving birth to twins

A

-Sky woman gives birth to twins, they represent dual force in the world.
-The good mind (Skyholder), and the bad mind (Flint)
-The twins are in constant conflict, which symbolizes the balance of opposing forces in the universe
-ultimately the good mind prevails but the bad mind remains a nessicary precense to maintain balance

Who is the Peacemaker? (The Great Law of Peace)

A

-Known as Hiawatha. Credited for establishing the Great Law of peace.
The Peacemaker was born to a virgin mother
-prophecty from the grandmother about a son coming to save the people.
-Traveled in a white stone canoe, he went south to share the message of peace top people who were consumed with blood feauds in a stone canoe.
-The fove nations threw their weapons into a Great white pine to symbolize their commitment to peace. This is symbolized by the wampum belt

A

handsome Lake was struggling with a near death experience, where he was visited by four beings in visions.
he has a miraculous recovery and begins to share his visions
he was shown the destruction of teh Haudensaunee and how this destruction can be held at bay
He ,mainly challenged traditional farming methods. men should cultivate crops.

Who was John Norton?

A

he was Haudensaunee adopted twice
he served as a military leader. This lead hgim to travel to England in 1816, where he sought to appeal directly to the British Gov. regarding Haudensaunee land rights.
He also was Christian, and translated the Gosple of John into Mohawk (The first Indigenous Bible translation)

A

An agreement between New France and teh haudensauneeConfederacy
To end the long standing conflict. Marked the end of the Beaver wars
the Haudensaunee agreed to stay neutrsal on all future conflicts between the French and British

A

Created in 1701 between the British and Haudensaunee
haudensaunee “sold” their land rights to the British and French for military support.
