Q

What vessel do lymphatic vessels most closely resemble and how so?

A

they resemble veins because they have valves and move fluid back to nodes similarly the veins move blood back to
the heart

Q

What are the two types of mature lymphocytes?
T-cell and B-cell

A

Q

How does the lymph system play a role in cancer?

A

when cancer cells pass through the lymphatic system they get stuck in the lymph nodes similar to how B and T cells attack harmful substances in the lymph

15
Q

is this an organ of lymphatic system or cardiovascular system or both? Defend your answer.

A

lymphatic system because the cardiovascular is associated with pumping blood throughout the body while the lymphatic focuses on keeping blood healthy and clean

16
Q

What is MALT?

A

Mucosa associated lymphoid tissue, responds to antigens encountered on the mucous surfaces.

17
Q

Specific structures of MALT

A

tonsils, appendix, Peyer’s patches (GALT)

18
Q

Locations of MALT

A

naso – and oro-pharynx, small intestine – ileum, and in the appendix (off the cecum of the colon)

19
Q

Functions

A

sticky, catch foreign materials

20
Q

What effect does the shrinking of the thymus throughout adulthood have on the immune system?

A

Since the Thymus makes T cells, when it shrinks in adulthood this reduces the amount of T cells in your immune system causing you to be more susceptible to diseases
