Lecture 2 – Cardiac Cycle Flashcards
Convection
Mass movement of fluid caused by pressure difference
Electrical conduction (4)
SAN - right atrium
AVN - Conduction is delayed allowing the fillinf of ventricles.
ventricles.
3) Conduction occurs rapidly through bundle of His into ventricles.
4) Conduction through Purkinje fibres spreads quickly throughout the ventricles.
SA Pacemaker potentials (3.5)
Phase 4: Pacemaker potentials
Phase 0
Phase 3
FLASH CARD
Atrial and ventricular muscle action potentials (5)
FLASH CARD
Blood flow - Deoxygenated
SVC/IVC –> RA –> Tricuspid –> RV –> Pulmonary valve –> Left/Right pulmonary artery
Blood flow - Oxygenated
Pulmonary vein –> LA –> Bicuspid –> LV –> Aortic valve –> Aorta
Cardiac cycle - chamber and volume changes (4)

Ventricular pressure-volume loop (3)
Work = Change in ventricle pressure x Change in volume.
Area inside loop = amount of work done.
SV = end systolic volume - end diastolic volume.
Right atrial cycle and jugular venous pressure (3) Graph (4)
Jugular vein will drain the blood from the heart into SVC/right atrium.
Pressure is the same in both.
Bulging jugular vein can indicate heart disease.
