Lecture 2 Flashcards
1
Q
What group do all common nucleotide coenzymes and ATP have in common?
A
Adenine-ribose-P
2
Q
What are ways that reactions with positive delta G’° can proceed?
A
- Couple with ATP hydrolysis to make additive negative delta G’°
- Change concentrations
- Change temperature
3
Q
Why do the phosphoanhydride bonds of ATP have high energy?
A
There is high charge repulsion in ATP, but the ADP + Pi products are resonance stabilized. This results in a very large negative deltaG gap between the reactants and products.
