Q

what is an endosteal blade implant?

A
  • device placed into the alv and or basal bone of mand or max
  • not around anymore, causes bone loss

Q

what is a subperiosteal implant?

A

employs an implant substructure and superstructure

  • placed beneath periosteum overlying bony cortex
  • used where there is inadequate bone for endosseous implant
  • disadvantages: slow rejection of implant, difficult retrievability, bone loss

7
Q

describe a transosteal implant:

A
  • combines endost and superiost. components
  • penetrates cortical plates and passes through full thickness of alv bone
  • onl for ant mnd and for support of denture
  • aka transmnd. and staple bone implant

Q

criteria for clinical success of dental implants?

A
  1. mobility of implant (<1 mm when tested)
  2. no evidence of radiolucency
  3. bone loss <1/3 the height of the implant
  4. any infx, damage, inflamm, must be amenable to tx
  5. success rate must be 75% + after 5 yrs of functional service
