Lecture 15 Flashcards
What allows for different compartments to be created inside a nucleus?
Different chromatin modifications allow for sorting in different compartments
What happens in DNA looping?
Cohesions protein has a motor that pushes the DNA to make a loop but it stops when the base of the chromosomes reach CTCF where there are CTCF binding sites.
*CTCF defines where cohesions is going to stop
Describe the core promoter and why it is so important
The core promoter has TATA box (not all promoters do) which helps to initiate transcription
- The TATA Binding protein or TBP recruits RNA Polymerase II
- Once bounds, RNAP II sits and waits, ready to be activated by TFs that are bound to enhancers.
- The core promoter tends to be located in nucleosome free regions
