Lecture 14: Drugs affecting Hemostasis Flashcards
1
Q
which cholesterol meds interact with clotting?
A
fibric acid derivatives like clofibrate, fenofibrate, and gemfibrozil may inhibit coagulation and enhance fibrinolysis
2
Q
lab tests for coagulation (PTT, PT/INR, TT)
A
Partial Thromboplastin Time
- measures efficacy of intrinsic and common pathways
- normally 25-30 seconds but will be 120 sec + for a clot to form if someone is on heparin
- to test someone on heparin or direct thrombin I
Prothrombin Time/ INR
- dependent on vit K, for testing warfarin
Thrombin Time
- time for fibrinogen to turn to fibrin (via thrombin)
