LECTURE Flashcards
What are the 3 metaphors of theory?
Theory as a net, theory as a lense, theory as a map.
What is theory as a net?
Karl Popper (1982): Constructed frameworks designed to capture empirical phenomena. Ccientific theories cannot fully capture the complexity of reality or provide absolute certainty.
What is theory as a lense?
Similar to camera lense/glasses, theories shape our perception by focusing on certain features and ignoring others.
What is theory as a maps
Not as popular seeing as people/ things are constantly changing.
What is communication?
The relational process of creating and interpreting messages that elicit a response.
What are the three models of communication?
linear, interactional, transactional
What is the linear model?
Model of communication with a sender who sends message to a receiver.
What is the interactive model?
Model of communication when 2 or more people, transmit and receive messages with slight delay (2 linear conversations happening at once).
What is transactional model?
Model of communication, occurs face-to-face where sender&receiver participate at same time with no delay.
What is feedback?
Ensures receiver has received the message and interpreted it correctly as it was intended by the sender and reacts/behaves/sends different message back in response.
