lecture 13- PDH Flashcards
cAMP
a signaling molecule that regulates glycolosis
pyruvate dehydrogenase
takes pyruvate and converts it to Acetyl CoA, also produces NADH and CO2 (feeds into TCA cycle).
co enzyme A
composed of adenosine phosphate, vitamin B5, and a reactive thiol group. it links with acetyl to create acetyl CoA
pyruvate dehydrogenase complex
E1 subunit: bound to TPP which reacts with pyruvate which creates hydroxyethyl TPP
E2: dihydrolipoyl transacetylase, generates acteyl CoA
E3: contains FAD cofactor which regenerates FAD and NADH
pyruvate decarboxylase
turns pyruvate into alcohol/yeast
- Decarboxylation in pyruvate dehydrogenase
TPP carbanion and pyruvate form hydroxyethyl TPP
- Oxidation in pyruvate dehydrogenase
from E1 to E2 subuint
- Transfer in pyruvate dehydrogenase
E2 to E3 handoff, needs FAD
- Regeneration
E3 regenerates oxidized lipoic acid and generates NADH
