Lecture 12 Flashcards
What is the order of blood vessels?
Aorta, arteries, arterioles, capillaries, venules, veins, vena cava
What is resistance to flow determined by?
Difference is arterial pressure and venous pressure
What is compliance?
Change in volume accommodated per unit pressure change
Which is more compliant, veins or arteries? what is the ratio
Veins are more complaint with ratio of 19 to 1
What does haemorrhage do to the vascular function curve?
Shifts to the left. Changes both CO and pressure
What does a transfusion do the the vascular function curve?
Shifts right. Changes in both CO and pressure
What does vasoconstriction do the the curve?
Decreases CO but no change in pressure
What does vasodilation do to the curve?
Increases CO but no change in pressure
Which is the stimulus and which is the response?
Stimulus is CO and response is the venous pressure
Why is blood flow and pressure dampened in the distal arterioles?
To decrease velocity of blood flow to protect the capillaries.
Which are the elastic vessels?
Arteries.
Which are the more muscular vessles?
Arterioles
Which vessels are just endothelial layers?
Capillaries
What is the order of layers from inside to outside of a artery?
Endothelial layer, connective tissue, internal elastic lamina, elastin, external elastic lamina, adventitia
Which layer has collagen and sympathetic fibres?
Adventitia
