What were the Eleusinian Mysteries?
They were initiations held every year for the cult of Demeter and Persephone based at Eleusis in ancient Greece. They are the “most famous of the secret religious rites of ancient Greece”
What are mystery religions?
Belief in the immortality of soul and afterlife/future life
Who were the Initiates?
Only for those who wished to belong joined—open to Greek women, children, men, and slaves

Originally the paradise to which heroes on whom the gods conferred immortality were sent
