Maslows hieracrhcy of needs
Being needs:
- Self-actualization

Deficiency needs
- arise out of organisms requirements for physiological survival or safety
B-needs
- arise out of the organisms drive to self-actualize and fulfill its inherent potential
self-actualization
a person fulfill their own needs and do the best they are capable of doing
- they expereice was amslow calls peak experiences:
-an intensification of any expereince to the degree that there is a loss or transcendence of the self
Phenomenology

- the study of human awareness and perceptions
self -concept

- a portion of phenomenal field that gradually become differentiated
congruence and incongruence

- congruence :
- exist when a persons symoblized expereinces reflect actual experiences
-Incongruence:
- exist when a persons symbolized expereinces do not reflect all their actual experiences; there is denial or distortion in the symbolization
need for what in the development of personality

- leads to fully functioning person
person-centered therapy
formaly called client-centered or nondirective therapy
- necassery attitudes of therapist: empathy, acceptance, genuineness

- empirically oriented open to philisophical veiwpoints
