Lecture 11/11/24 Flashcards
What is edge enhancement
Even if 2 structures look similar, can tell them apart by the edges
What is visual noise
You look at an image so long it burns onto retina
Interpretation of image
make meaning out of data
what is knowledge
e.g. anatomy and how it looks like
what’s understanding
e.g. how the image is made, whats in it
what’s practice
e.g. properly looking at images
what’s context
e.g. clinical details - helps you where to look but can be bad
what is perception
responses of the NS to an external stimulus
what is projection and expectation
making things fit based on previous experience so you look harder in certain areas when you wouldn’t for others e.g. looking harder for fractures when someone has pain but you wouldn’t for someone without pain.
influences on perception
projection and expectation
Memory
Selectivity
Habituation
Salience
Normalising
Dissonance
Words
Other people
Closure
what is selectivity
brain cant take all info all the time so ignore certain signals but if ignore wrong signals, miss important things.
what is habituation
stop noticing things you see repeatedly
what is salience
only see things once pointed out to you
what is normalising
going through signals but still keep missing it.
what is dissonance
two competing signals where both could be accurate
what is words
using appropriate terminology
what is other people
influenced by others
what is closure
seeing something you couldn’t before.
what is search error
failure to fixate on an area of interest
what is recognition error
failure to fixate long enough on area of interest
what is decision error
fixation on an area of interest but not recognising as important
