Lecture 1: Thoracic and Lumbar Screening and Diagnosis Flashcards
What type of TART changes do you expect for a Type 1 dysfunction?
Chronic: Cool, dry skin, decreased edema, ropy, fibrotic
What type of TART changes do you expect for a Type 2 dysfunction?
Acute: Erythematous, boggy, increased moisture, hypertonic muscles
What muscles are involved in a type 1 dysfunction?
Long restrictor muscles of back
What muscles are involved in a type 2 dysfunction?
Short segmental muscles of spine
In diagnosis, what does load and spring refer to?
load: use thumbs to layer palpate and locate the TP
spring: apply anterior force to one side then the other to determine restriction of motion
What is the long lever method of diagnosis?
When you use gross movements to assess motion
ex. sidebend using shoulder to assess spinal segment for sidebending
Where do nerves exit in the cervical spine?
above the vertebral body
Where do nerves exit in the thoracic spine?
below the vertebral body
Where do nerves exit in the lumbar spine?
below the vertebral body
What is the myodural bridge?
Connection between rectus capitis posterior major and dura mater - may have function aside from anchoring the muscle
Contains a dural component
