What is the Nutrition Care Process?
A process used in clinical nutrition and individual counselling that provides high quality nutrition care to individuals by facilitating change in behaviour to improve health by translating science into knowledge to educate the client
What is the role of the Dietitian in the NCP?
To be a facilitator/enabler working with the client to assist in change
What does ADIME stand for?
nutrition Assessment and nutrition Diagnosis

What is involved in nutrition assessment and nutrition diagnosis?
Process of collecting and interpreting data
- client is referred, we collect, analyse and interpret data
How is patient data collected?
ABCD’S
What are the ABCD’S of patient data collection?
Anthropometric Biochemical Clinical Dietary Social/behavioural
What does anthropometric data include?
Skin folds Weight Height Arm or waist circumfrence Growth (paediatric)
What does biochemical data include?
BGL Lipids Hb Serum electrolytes/albumin Renal/organ function
What does clinical data include?
medical history
medication
clinical exam
symptoms/physical appearance
What does dietary data include?
food fluid amount frequency cooking methods habits
What is involved in nutrition intervention?
the development of goals, objectives and strategies
What are goals?
The desired health outcome of the intervention
general, not diet specific
created from the problem list
What are objectives?
the nutrition or lifestyle specific changes needed to achieve the goals by addressing causes or contributing factors
nutrient, lifestyle/behaviour, or knowledge related
What are strategies?
the specific changes needed to the individuals diet and/or behaviour to achieve objectives = put the plan into practice
food and behaviour related
What is involved in monitoring and evaluation?
involves MONITORING process, ASSESSING knowledge and behavioural change, and REVISING the NCP
