lecture 1 Flashcards
MABP = what
CO times TPR
CO equals what
heart rate times stroke volume
what is shock
when blood pressure is not maintained at a sufficient level
define perfusion
the passage of fluid through blood or lymph vessels to an organ
where are our baroreceptors
these are in our aortic arch and the carotid arteries
what type of receptor is a baroreceptor
it is a stretch activated mechanoreceptor which is tonically active
what is the immeadiate response to change in blood pressure
the baroreceptor reflex, so our baroreceptors detect the less stretch thus activating the ANS to cause a change in TPR
what is the intermediate length response to chnage in blood pressure
we see fluids move from the tissues into the capillaries in the process called autotransfusion
outline autotransfusion
arterioles constrict, the capillary hydrostatic hydrostatic pressure decreases, the fluid absorption from the interstitial compartment increases, the plasma volume increase, thus arterial pressure moves toward normal
how does the long term response work
this is volume replacement, ADH is released to increase water retention. also reduced renal perfusion so RAA is activated to further retain water and Na/H2O
what is cardiogenic shock
a decrease in heart output due to a heart pathology, so heart thus cannot pump sufficiently
what is anaphylatic shock
when a severe allergic reaction leads to large scale histamine release, causing increased vascular permeability and vasodilation
neurogenic shock what is
loss of SNS tone following a spinal cord injury - typically, leadibg to dysregulation of the ANS
what is septic shock
widespread vasodilation and vascular permeability due to an infection which will cause severe inflammatory response
