Lecture 1 Flashcards
What are the 4 basic tissues of the body?
Epithelial tissue , Connective Tissue , Muscle Tissue , Nervous Tissue
Epithelial tissue
Covers exposed surfaces, Lines internal passageways and chambers, forms secretory glands
Connective tissue
Fills Internal spaces, Provides structural support, stores energy
Function of Muscle tissue
Contracts to produce movement, includes skeletal muscle, cardiac muscle, and smooth muscle
Nervous tissue
Conducts electrical impulses, carries information
What is Epithelial tissue made up of?
It is made up of sheets of cells tightly held together, no space between them, is it provides excellent protection
Includes: Epithelia and Glands
Function of Epithelial tissue
- Provide physical protection
- Control permeability (help things move from one place to another in your body)
- Provide sensation
- Produce specialised secretion (saliva and hormones)
(Body) What is Apical and Basolateral?
?
Connective tissue
