A

Origin of term “Vitamin”

A

-Originally described a vital amine (nitrogen or N)-containing component of food = called Vitamine
- then scientists realized many of these compounds did not contain N (or amines) so the letter “e” was dropped from the word Vitamine
- Became Vitamin which is used now
