What is a psychological intervention?
An action performed to bring change to people who experience psychological difficulties
What is the aim of psychological intervention?
To help people to improve their bio-psychosocial functioning, therefore to imrove well-being
Which is the most common psychological intervention?
Psychotherapy
When a psychological intervention is effective?
When there is a combination of the best available research
With clinical expertise in the context of patient characteristics, culture, and preferences

Use their relational skills to form a good therapeutic relationship with clients
Use their technical skills to assess, formulate, and select the best available treatment for client
Consider clients caracteristics, preferences, values, family factors in the choice of treatment
Set goals collaboratively with clients

CREATE A SAFE ENVIROMENT
Explain confidentiality (sign consent form, notes taking, supervision)
Explain the purpose of the assessment - ask the client if he is aware of the reason of the session and/or he is familiar with therapy
E.g. “DO you have any idea why are you here today?”
“Have you been to therapy before?”
What does a first session outline includes?
External frame (boundaries, fees, location, structuring sessions)
Active listening/attending
Be aware of your own “first impression” of your client
Non-verbal communication
Check if client is clear with given information so far
And…..the assessment starts!!
