What is the new succession rule that Peter makes? When and why does he make it?
1722: Only the tsar can choose who his successor will be. After his son with his first wife, Aleksei is found guilty of treason he is sent to prison and set to be executed.
What does the 1722 table of ranks do?
People need to work for their positions. Forces people to get educated. Nobles keep their positions but need to work in order to get promoted. Low-born newcomers can be noblelized too
What church reforms does Peter the Great make?
- abolishes the Patriarch and replaces it with the Holy Synod
- diminishes church’s power
