lec 5- spatialisation Flashcards
is sound spatial?
yes it is 3d
what are the two things that help us with spatial sound perception?
-Interaural time delay (ITD): arrival time of sound
-interaural level difference (ILD): loudness of sound, difference in amplitude
what is Doppler shift?
the change in frequency of a wave caused by the relative motion between source and the observer (e.g. car horn driving by)
what are some techniques of sound spatialisation?
-monophonic sound: telephone
-stereophonic sound: CD, TV
-multiphonic sound: home cinema
-2 stereo signal
-3 stereo signal
-5.1: helps improve sound for off center listeners
-surround speakers: makes it seem like sound is coming from around
-low frequency effect
what is binaural recording?
-using a dummy head with ears to record sounds as if the human was their to receive them
what is ambisonic surround sound?
-the use of 4 to 8 speakers to have a 3d sound effect
what is beamforming?
a line of speakers used to move sound by playing them linearly with a delay
