Q

what are the two things that help us with spatial sound perception?

A

-Interaural time delay (ITD): arrival time of sound
-interaural level difference (ILD): loudness of sound, difference in amplitude

Q

what is Doppler shift?

A

the change in frequency of a wave caused by the relative motion between source and the observer (e.g. car horn driving by)

Q

what are some techniques of sound spatialisation?

A

-monophonic sound: telephone
-stereophonic sound: CD, TV
-multiphonic sound: home cinema
-2 stereo signal
-3 stereo signal
-5.1: helps improve sound for off center listeners
-surround speakers: makes it seem like sound is coming from around
-low frequency effect
